12" Earl 16 / Yehoud-I & Imanouel - Trouble on the Border / Sooner or Later (red vinyl)
“Eeyun and The Co-Operators bring you a maxi in fine style. Earl 16's classic tone on 'The Border'. Growing up on Kingston's Waltham Park Road, he cut his teeth at some of Jamaica's most legendary studios. Including Channel 1 and Scratch's infamous Black Ark. Tracks such as 'Freedom' (recorded at the Ark) and 'Babylon Boots' have earned legendary status among enthusiasts. After relocating to the UK, Earl's work with producers such as Manasseh brought his wicked lyrics and infectious melodies to new generations. Their output together being a staple on the soundsystems over the years with huge tunes such as 'Natural Roots' being a firm favorite. This time around Earl rides a heavy rockers rhythm singing about the desperation and injustices experienced by two characters, Amir and Amina, seeking a better life across the border. The B-side 'Sooner or Later' brings a distinct change in flavor. A deeper, more spiritual cut from French brothers, Yehoud I and Imanouel. Yehoud has made a name for himself working with producers such as Alpha Steppa, Kanka, Vibes Creators, Simon Nyabinghi and Chouette Records. Tunes such as the desperately catchy 'Likkle Zion' and 'Leave Babylon' regularly find their voice at soundsystem dances and festival sessions in Europe. 'Sooner or Later' brings a Black Ark flavor with its message of redemption and prophetic realization. Yehoud I and Imanouel's melodies ride over the echoing percussion and meditative rhythm of The Co-Operators in a dream-like dance.
Both cuts are definitely sure fire favorites
for collectors and selectors alike! Forward!”
